An announcement of The 12th Annual Meeting of the Protein Science Society of Japan

  • Yuji Goto

Dear Protein Scientists under Asian Pacific Protein Association:

Make plans to attend the 12th Annual Meeting of the Protein Science Society of Japan, which will be held on June 20-22, 2012, in Nagoya, Japan. The PSSJ’s Annual Meeting has a reputation for excellence and, as you can see from the preliminary program, Prof. Toshiya Endo (Nagoya University), President of the Annual Meeting, has put together an exceptional program featuring 3 Symposiums and 17 Workshops. We expect more than 400 poster presentations and 800 participants. Please advertize the PSSJ Annual Meeting to your colleagues and students. The deadline of the abstract submission is March 22 (Thu), 2012.

To encourage participations from abroad, following Symposium and Workshops will be held in English.

  • 1st day Symposium: Protein dynamics and cellular functions
  • 1st day Workshop 1WD: Impact of supersaturation on protein science
  • 1st day Workshop 1WE: To what extent has the problem of protein folding been solved?

Slides of all of the oral and poster presentations will be presented in English. The abstract book will be organized so that foreign participants can follow the schedules in English.

Furthermore, we arrange a special exemption for foreign participants. To make a presentation at the Meeting, a regular participant is required to be a member of the PSSJ: Annual membership fee is 5,000 JPY for a regular member and 1,500 JPY for a student regular member. This requirement will not apply to foreign participants who are members of the Protein Society or members of the regional societies under APPA. If you have no regional society under APPA, please ask the Council Members to write a recommendation letter. Once those participants send designated documents upon registration, it is not necessary to become a new PSSJ member. Please follow the instruction on the Registration page.
Please note: this exemption does not apply to the foreign participants staying in Japan.

Please feel free to contact with the Office of the Annual Meeting if you have any inquiries (

The IPR Seminar on June 18 (Mon) -19 (Tue), 2012

Just before the PSSJ Annual Meeting, we organize a Seminar of the Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University, focusing on protein folding and misfolding. Presentations will be in English. Although the main topics are folding and misfolding, we are going to have sessions on the structure and function of proteins. If you could come to Osaka to participate in the Seminar as well as the PSSJ Annual Meeting, we arrange you poster presentations. Basically, we cannot support your travel expenses although you may use inexpensive guest houses of Osaka University. Please make contact with Yuji Goto (

I hope seeing you at Osaka and Nagoya in June.

Best regards,

Yuji Goto
Past President of APPA and Board Member of PSSJ
